Questions
Questions and answers
The questions people ask on the phone.
How do you price an acre?
From what the ground and the growth ask of the machine: slope, rocks, how tall and thick the cover is, how many gates and obstacles, and how far the pile has to go. Two acres of kept pasture and two acres of blackberry are different days. The written estimate lists what drove the number.
How soon can you start, and how long will it take?
The estimate gives a start window and a finish window. Mowing runs from green-up through fall, brush work and thinning go best before fire season and after the ground firms up, and wet or frozen ground can move a date. We tell you when it moves.
Are you registered and insured?
Our registration and our insurance are listed at the bottom of every page. Ask for the certificate of insurance and we send it before the first visit.
What happens at the estimate?
One of us walks the ground with you, marks gates, wells, fences, wet spots and what stays, measures what is being cut, and takes photos. The written estimate comes after, with the scope, the machines, where the cuttings go and what is not included.
How do I pay?
Mowing is billed after each visit. Brush and clearing jobs are billed when the work is done, with a deposit on larger jobs. The estimate says which applies, and which payment methods we take.
What if it rains, or the ground is frozen?
Soft ground is hard on the pasture and on the machines, so we wait for it to firm up. Frozen ground is fine for some brush work and no good for others. Snow is plowed on the trigger in your agreement, rain or not.
What should I do before you come?
Move livestock to another field, unlock the gates, and mark wells, septic tanks, drain fields, buried lines and anything you want left alone. Tell us about the dog, the bull and the wet spot by the culvert.
Where do you work?
Ravalli County from Darby to Woodside, and the roads around Hamilton. The service area page lists the towns and where we do not go.
Does clearing around my house lower my insurance?
We can't say. Check with your insurer, and ask what they want to see. We will write up exactly what was cleared and where, with photos, to hand them.
Do you burn brush piles?
No. Burning needs a permit and the rules change with the season and the district, so we chip, haul or leave a pile for you to deal with. The estimate says which.
When does the snow contract close?
On a date written in your agreement, so the route is built before the first storm. After that we may take a one-time plow when the route has room.
